Thanks to all those who joined us at the 40th anniversary of the PIC Coastal Classic!
It was awesome to see a good fleet of cruisers in this year’s rally, with 13 boats crossing the line in good time.
A breezy start with a 15kt sou’wester made for an exciting beginning to the race. Against the forecast, the wind changed later in the evening to some tricky light-wind conditions that becalmed much of the fleet for a time. A decent easterly eventually won out, making for a good ride into Russell and across the finish line.
Hone’s Garden in Russell once again provided the perfect spot to gather on Saturday afternoon for a beer, pizza, a yarn and some spot prizes!
The cruising rally participants had their priorities in order this year, with some hot competition for this year’s Best Meal Prepared Underway. Appetising entries included rice paper rolls, cheese platters, baked salmon and more! But perhaps the most delicious of all was the winning meal aboard "Skyfall": lasagne with a side of garlic bread and broccoli pine nut salad.
The bold crew on "Binx" stripped off and used pure sex appeal in order to take out the prize for Best Dressed…. Or should we say undressed?
They also wrangled the prize for Biggest Fish Caught with a Kahawai!
And "Fresh Venture" captured a stunning sunset sail along with the prize for Best Photo.
We loved seeing all the photos coming through of the crew’s having fun on the way up the coast, we can't wait to do it all again next year!
